Easy to Learn Games That Are in French

Learning French is often difficult and frustrating at times. You feel that you have made some progress in understanding the past tense, for example, only to learn that there are 7 other tenses you have to learn. You wonder if you will ever see the light and be able to have a normal conversation with a French person. How do other people do it? Some people even speak more than 2 languages fluently. How do they fit all those words into their heads? Do their heads expand or something?

The truth is that you sometimes need a break from formal lessons and need to have a bit of fun in your learning. This is where games, primarily educational games, can come in handy. The remit of a game is to make learning fun. To make the person forget that they are actually learning something. Good games are often better teaching devices than any class or formal course provided they have some special addictive quality.

Some of the common games that help to teach French are words games. Although not many of them could be considered addictive, they provide a pleasant distraction from the formality of a class or lesson.

Traditional word games include crosswords, hangman, scrabble and battleships. The idea is to guess the words that are hidden using clues or answering questions about the words or verbs.

Other games that are more addictive are the 'who wants to be a millionaire' game that follows the format of the popular game show. You are asked questions in French and have to answer (type in) in French. This game is quite addictive and builds in complexity as your skill level increases.

Another interesting game which will make you forget you are learning is a murder mystery game. You play the sidekick to Inspecteur Roger Duflair. You have to guess who the murderer is from a range of suspects. They tell you their stories and you have to figure out which one sounds suspicious or doesn't add up. You have to send your answer as to who the culprit is by mail to the owner of the game. The owner runs a French language school in Nice.

Games can help you to learn French and make learning less of a chore. Many games are on the Internet and are free.
