Can Toys and Games Help Your Child's Development?

It is widely accepted, that an educational toy and game can help your child's development and growth. It is strange, that only recently, the UK government has researched how important play is to educational development. And, and are only now, reworking the way children are taught in schools. Fun games and play is the most effective and the most enjoyable way for children to learn. You can take any educational kids games, toys or activities, and make it an enjoyable experience, and, by you being a part of the activity, your child will be fixed for longer.

Your child looks up to you and will mimic you movements, language and mannerisms. This is how your child starts all their learning. An educational toy and game is a great way to engage children in fun learning, and will help them step up the ladder of early education. Sharing activities will also build the best childhood memories, as well as constructing a solid foundation in their educational development.

Even simple activities like playing shop, can go far to expand their educational experience. While pretending to be the shop owner, your child will be using their imagination. They will also be practising language skills, cooperation skills and building on their vocabulary. To expand this play further, you could put money in the till, this will start a familiarization process to currency and the idea of exchange.

Help this along by explaining the difference in the coins, what they are called and what they are worth. You could put signs up, with different prices, so your child can start to appreciate that some things are worth more than others.. To enhance the analytical and cognitive skills in your child, you could ask your child to count the coins or separate them according to their value. History could also be introduced, by talking about how shops used to look and how much they have changed. You could even stock the shop with groceries from your cupboard, and talk about where items came from, how they grow or what animal was needed. A great introduction to Geography!

By expanding simple fun games, you expand your child's mind, and you do it in a way that is fun, enjoyable and interesting to your child. Through simple play like this, you can introduce your child to various subjects like maths, language, science, history and geography. Not bad for a silly game! :-) But don't stop there...

Enrich your child's knowledge; let your child's imagination in arts and crafts, in dance and making music go wild. Creative and analytical thinking are done on opposite sides of the brain, and by promoting whole of brain thought, memory is greatly improved. Remembering is much easier if you combine an activity like dance with maths, or sequence with rhyme,. If you help your child to use both sides of their brain, you will set them on an enjoyable journey of education, and your child, could end up with the mental power of Einstein or other great thinkers.

Tony Buzan has some great books to master your memory. I only wish that I'd been given these tools as a child, as like most adults, we were more accepting of new ideas when we were younger. If you have a young child, I would highly recommend the book Brain Child. It gives you lots of ideas on activities that you can do together, without the need of expensive learning games.
